FUNdango Report
The journey began this past spring when a
total of 18 local washer tournaments, four
more than last year, were held all around
the state. After all was said and done, the
teams emerged victoriously from their
local tournaments to proudly represent
their HBA in Grapevine.
Now to set the scene that served as the
backdrop for the statewide washers
tournament: I was stunned by how the
long tables of gourmet mac ‘n cheese,
beef tenderloin, and decadent desserts
made you feel more like you were at a
country club. The scene not only provided
entertainment for adults, but there were
also plenty of family friendly activities
like a balloon artist, caricature drawing,
a psychic and a DJ to keep children of all
ages entertained.
I would like to take this opportunity to
drop some facts and figures before I get
to who walked away with the infamous
belt buckles. Last year a total of 14 teams
played in the statewide championship,
and 21 teams participated in the buy-in
tournament. This year 17 teams played in
the statewide championship, and 31 teams
participated in the buy-in tournament.
This fundraiser truly was a win/win for
HOMEPAC. Bottom line – more teams
than last year = more $ for HOMEPAC.z
The results! Jamie Crow and Chad
Hansen, from the Heart of Texas BA
landed in third place, Chase Ripple and
Bill Harrison of the Greater Houston
BA came in second, and from the piney
woods of East Texas Alan Amos and Jeff
McKinney of the East Texas BA emerged
victoriously and were handsomely
rewarded with golden washer necklaces
and hand crafted belt buckles. With
that I would like to thank all those who
participated in their local tournaments
as well as the statewide tournament and I
hope to see you again next year!

W
ho would have guessed that
a porte cochère could be
transformed into the place to
be on a warm July evening at the Gaylord
Texan® in Grapevine, Texas? To those
that thought it would be impossible to
trump the scenery, funds and fun that
was had at last year’s 1
st
Annual Washers
Tournament, you stand corrected. I’m
getting ahead of myself–let me first tell
you about the voyage that each washers
team embarked upon to have the chance
to claim the highly sought after State
Washers Championship Belt Buckle.
