T

he Winona Area Learning Center, opened in 2008,

offers an alternative learning option for students in

grades 9-12 who are in need of a non-traditional

approach to education. This building is currently also

home to an infant and toddler child care center to support

teen parents and community members.

WAPS’ highly respected Special Education department is

proud to serve students with varying abilities and special

education needs from birth through age 21.

WAPS Community Education wraps around the K-12

systems with programming for school-age childcare;

and also extends education to include early learning

opportunities for preschoolers and families as well as

education, recreation and support for adult learners.

The future of the Winona Area Public Schools brings

the possibility of facilities changes. With aging buildings

and declining enrollment, the district is seriously at work

to look at how resources can best be used to provide

ongoing exceptional educational while being good

stewards of taxpayer money. WAPS administration and

the WAPS School Board Directors are exploring several

facility options that will continue to benefit our students’

education and the community.

In the spring of 2016, WAPS embarks on the journey

of creating a new strategic plan. Through Community

Summits with various stakeholders, administration will

begin to lay the groundwork for drafting a vision, mission

and goals that will guide us into the future.

Great things continue to happen in the Winona Area

Public Schools, where all learners, across the age

continuum, are welcomed. Visit us online at
