to Receive
Heroes Home
Lubbock Homes for Heroes in partnership
with the West Texas Home Builders
Association proudly awarded its 2015 new
mortgage free home to Marine Sergeant
Christopher R. Montez. Sergeant Montez
was paralyzed from the neck down in a
helicopter accident in 2004. He originally
served from 1994 – 1998, reenlisting
in 2001 after 9/11 and serving until his
accident in 2004. Sergeant Montez has
received multiple commendations for his
service including the Navy Marine Corps
Achievement Medal and the National
Defense Service Medal. Sergeant Montez
is cared for daily by his medical team and
mother, Minnie.
The new heroes’ home will be built on
land generously donated by Robert Wood
and Trey Strong, the developers of Fox
Ridge in Lubbock, Texas. The home is
being built and donated by local vendors,
tradesmen, and builders of the West Texas
Home Builders Association with Stewart
Townsen as the lead builder.

Renovators
Must Renew
Individuals who completed an initial
renovator certification (“lead paint”)
course accredited by EPA before April 22,
2010 must complete an EPA-accredited
renovator refresher course before July 1,
2015, to maintain renovator certification.
Individuals who completed an initial
renovator certification course after April
22, 2015 must complete a renovator
refresher course accredited by EPA or
an authorized State or Tribal program
within five years of the date the individual
completed the initial certification course.
If the individual does not complete a
refresher course within this time, the
individual must re-take the initial course
to become certified again. Look up when
your individual and firm certification
expires

to Vice Chairman
of Southside
Bancshares, Inc.
Former President of the Texas Association
of Builders, Bob Garrett was elected Vice
Chairman of the Board of Directors for
the Southside Bancshares, Inc., on January
1, 2015. Garrett has served on the Board
of Directors of Southside Bancshares, Inc.
and Southside Bank since 2009. He is a
residential and commercial Real Estate
Developer and has served as President
of Fair Oil Company, a Tyler based oil
and gas exploration and production
company, since 2002. He is also Vice
President of the R.W. Fair Foundation,
a member of the Board of Regents at
Stephen F. Austin State University and
Chairman of the University of Texas
Health Northeast Development Board.
He is a director of T.B. Butler Publishing,
Inc., a member of the board of the Tyler
Economic Development Council and the
Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.
He also is a past President of the Tyler
Area Builders Association.
