Texas Association of Builders
July/August 2015
On Council
A Hallmark Year
A
s Summer nears, the Texas Association
of Builders Young Professionals
Council invites you to join in the
success of a hallmark year. The first success
of the year was securing our first annual
title sponsor, Ferguson, for which we are
very grateful. This success was followed by
the distinct honor of winning the National
Association of Home Builders’ 2014 AEA-HBA
Award for Best Council Development Program,
due in large part to the incredible support by
TAB staff. These milestones tee us up for our
biggest event of the year, the Excellence under
45 Awards Program, which I will explain later
in this article. The accomplishments made by
this short-lived council are most attributable to
the unique void it fills within the Association.
The Young Professionals Council is comprised
of members of nearly every group, committee
and council of the Texas Association
of Builders. We come from all different
backgrounds, are employed in a wide array
of roles, and come from all over the state. The
one thing we have in common, beyond the age
range, is our dedication to the home building
industry. To me, this is a true embodiment
of the Association. We join together in this
common trait to learn, grow, engage and
further the interests of our industry. The sky
is the limit and our impact on the industry is
only strengthened by the involvement of every
segment of Association membership. There
are a number of ways to get involved and our
flagship YP Awards program is a great example.
The Excellence under 45 Awards Program
is dedicated to highlighting and rewarding
outstanding young professionals who have
committed their time, efforts and careers
to the Texas building industry. The focus
is not just to honor those individuals that
are already engaged in the Association, but
also those who are making an impact in the
industry and have yet to realize the benefits of
getting involved. We had an exceptional class
of honorees last year and we look forward to
recognizing more excellence this year.

It’s been a great honor to serve as the
Chairman this year. I can say with all
confidence that those who get the most
from the Association are those who are most
involved. With that, I sincerely invite each of
you to explore the opportunity of investing in
tomorrow’s leaders by engaging in the Young
Professionals Council. Your assistance will
have a lasting impact on our industry.
John Williams serves as the volunteer chairman
of the Young Professionals Council. Before
becoming Chairman, John served as YP’s Vice-
Chair in 2014 and was instrumental in getting
YP founded in 2012. He also dedicates his time
to TAB’s Volume Builders Council, Executive
Committee and is a State Director for the
Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA),
and he works for K. Hovnanian Homes. He is
involved with the GHBA in many ways; one of
which, is as their YP Committee’s Chairman.
