Torrential rains pounded the Boys and
Girls Country campus in Hockley, Texas
but never dampened the excitement and
enthusiasm at the recent groundbreaking
for a new 7,100 sq. ft. cottage that will
house eight children. Many guests shared
in the event that set the wheels in motion
for construction of the Joanne H. Watford
Cottage, one of several planned.
HomeAid Houston is teaming up with
award-winning
builder
Partners
in
Building to construct a home providing a
safe, nurturing environment for children of
families in crisis. Partners in Building has
already established a long list of Greater
Houston Builders Association (GHBA)
members donating materials and services.
HomeAid Houston is a 501(c)(3) charity
of the GHBA. HomeAid builds transitional
housing by working with homeless service
agencies to identify housing needs and
provide construction services.
Boys and Girls Country was established in
1971 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity
whose mission is to change the lives of
children from families in crisis by loving
and nurturing them in a Christian home
environment, raising them to become
self-sustaining and contributing adults.
Located 35 miles northwest of Houston,
Boys and Girls Country has the capacity
to serve 48 boys and 40 girls, aged 5-18,
for a total of 88 children from the greater
Houston area at any one time.
“Our partnership with HomeAid Houston
allows us to help provide a safe, nurturing
environment for some very deserving
kids,” said Jim Lemming, President and
CEO of Partners in Building. “We are
honored to be able to provide our services
and experience on this ambitious project.”
