Texas Association of Builders

May/June 2016

HOMEPAC

I

f you didn’t get the chance to

demonstrate your swinging abilities at

our HOMEPAC TopGolf event inMarch,

you’ll have the opportunity to strut those

skills at the annual FUNdango Washers

Tournament at the Sunbelt Builder Show™.

Prior to FUNdango, local associations are

fundraising for HOMEPAC by putting

their own spin on the washers tournament

explosion - think: Crab Boil & Washers

Tournament - sending their winners to

compete to bring home all the glory from

the state level competition in August.

Fundraising on the local association level

is extremely critical to the success of

HOMEPAC. Don’t tell me that some of the

following ideas don’t beg for shared pictures!

• Beer-making and salsa competition with

live music

• Barn dance with live and silent auctions

• Chili cook-off and live music with a best

booth/best dressed competition

• Putting Par-Tee (putt putt mini golf)

• Bowling with Builders

• Nails & Tails Fishing Tournament

• Oktoberfest celebration

• Tailgate party at major/minor league games

• Elected officials fish fry or barbeque

• Legislative breakfast

• Dancing with the Stars competition

A large majority of our local associations

go the extra mile by ‘passing the hat’ for

HOMEPAC at each and every event. You’d

be surprised at how quickly those small

donations add up!

Another local association utilizes their

annual dues notice as an opportunity to

give their members the option to send

in a HOMEPAC contribution with their

membership fees.

There are quite a few outstanding members

who enjoy being their local association’s

HOMEPAC liaisons, providing peer-

to-peer influence to solicit HOMEPAC

activity and contributions. Oftentimes,

these folks invite prospective supporters to

meetings with elected officials. Local level

HOMEPAC liaisons have been known to

organize into small groups, or simply

provide a one-on-one experience.

If the prospect of pitching a sale for

HOMEPAC is not your forte, rather than

focusing on the money, focus on the

opportunity you are giving your fellow

members to take a proactive role in the

industry - in their community and on the

state level.

Since the new year rolled around,

HOMEPAC has seen an increase in

annual membership contributions, with

quite a few members opting for a higher

HOMEPAC contribution – a trend I hope

will continue!
