his 5,000-square-foot home in
University Park, an inner suburb
of Dallas, recently underwent
an extraordinary remodel, inside and
out. The result was a huge success,
demonstrating the value of a clear vision,
decisiveness, and a little bit of ingenuity.
The owner knew exactly what she wanted
and brought on the skilled team at Key
Residential to help achieve her dream
home. She had worked with Key on the
remodel of a previous residence with
excellent results. As the general contractor,
Key coordinated with the architects,
designers, painters, electricians, and
other trade partners.
“[The client] loves the rustic look,” said
Kevin Key, owner of Key Residential.
“She wanted it to look like a 100-year-
old French farmhouse.” But she didn’t
just want it to remind people of being
at a century-old home; she wanted
authenticity in every single detail in
order to transport occupants to another
era. Rough-cut, mill-sawn lumber was
brought in for the kitchen ceiling, and the
client specified that she wanted to be able
to look up and see through the cracks in
the beams. If someone was standing up
there, she actually wanted to see their feet,
sacrificing insulation to fit the theme.
