business decisions that forced us to make
drastic cutbacks. Some of our fellow builders
had to drop their local, state, and national
memberships. Others had to completely close
the doors on their home building operations.
I had to not only make tough decisions for my
company, but also for my local association as I
served as the 2009 Dallas Builders Association
President. As the saying goes, “What doesn’t
kill you will make you stronger.” I can truly say
I am much stronger for surviving the Great
Recession and am very well-prepared to face
any challenge or opportunity that our state
association encounters in 2016.
Striving for Growth in 2016

W
hat a great time to be President of
the Texas Association of Builders!
This past spring, our association had
one of our most triumphant legislative sessions
in years. In July, we experienced one of our
most successful Sunbelt Builders Show™ since
its inception. We are starting to see small but
steady increases in membership. And best of
all, our state continues to lead the nation in the
number of new homes built.
This recent success has not come without a price. It
hasbeenalong,hardroadasourindustrybattlesback
from the Great Recession that started in 2008. Each
of us has been faced with many hard and difficult
