Ray Adauto, Executive VP for the El Paso
Association of Builders, has had a busy
summer as announcer for the El Paso
Chihuahuas, the Triple-A team for the San
Diego Padres. “I got the gig [but] was so sure
I wouldn’t…I actually had my wife record
the tryout from the stands,” Adauto said.
Adauto started by announcing his
daughter’s high school games and later for
UTEP basketball. “I’m the only PA guy in
the history of UTEP men’s basketball to
have had the honor of calling games for
Hall of Famer Haskins to present day Tim
Floyd,” said Adauto.
And Adauto’s announcing career has built
up quite the fan-base. “When you think of
Ray Adauto, you think ‘Uncle Ray,’ [his]
nickname…from his radio and UTEP
days,” said Randy Bowling, Tropicana
Homes of El Paso president. “Even our
Mayor and City Council call him Uncle
Ray… and many of our TAB members,
state reps and others refer to him as Uncle,
just like my kids.”
Adauto loves announcing, but says it’s
difficult committing to so many games.
“Without the support of my board and my
wife, this couldn’t happen,” Adauto said.
“I’m blessed to have the voice to do this,
and I try to do the best I can with it.”
“Now batting…”
