GlassCraft Door Company wins the fenestration industry’s prestigious Crystal
Achievement Award for Most Innovative Door Component. The award is in
recognition of GlassCraft’s breakthrough BioFoam
insulating foam material
used for its FiberCraft premium composite doors product line. Unique in the
industry, BioFoam is produced from plant-based oil sources, providing a more
sustainable and environmental alternative to polyurethane insulating foam.
The distinctive judges reviewing this year’s CAA entries, cited BioFoam’s
reported lower environmental impact as the tipping point of innovation. One
judge explains, “BioFoam is less hazardous to manufacture and use, it can
contribute to green building efforts and reduced fossil fuel usage.”GlassCraft’s
product development team worked closely with its chemist to develop
BioFoam and to test its performance. Test results show that BioFoam exhibits
uniform density and an even cell structure that uses no synthetic blowing
agent or ozone-depleting substances. This translates to safer workplace for
GlassCraft’s employees and a “greener” door for its customers. This giant
leap with regard to environmental and health advantages ultimately benefts
the end user in the home building market. As one CAA judge cites, “I can see
homeowners requesting this in the future.” BioFoam is available in FiberCraft
premium composite doors with a variety of designs including plank doors,
contemporary doors, 2 panel doors with speakeasies, doors with decorative
glass, wrought iron grilles, SDLs (simulated divided lites), craftsman, and
privacy glass.
