PUBLIC POLICY
The ORA’s 2012
Candidate Endorsements
Looking out for your interests by supporting pro-business politicians
The Ohio Restaurant Association (ORA) made political
endorsements for the first time in its 90-year history in
2010. The positive response from the candidates was even
more than we had expected. The restaurant industry is
under increasing threats from well-intentioned lawmakers
and bureaucrats. It is more important than ever that our
members and our association be actively engaged in politics
at all levels of government.
Endorsements provide us with a powerful tool to impact
elections. Ultimately, our goal is to elect candidates who
will let you run your business without unnecessary, costly
government regulations. Our experience with endorsements
in 2010 produced two significant benefits. First, it increased
our industry’s influence over the outcome of scores of
races, helping to elect more business-oriented lawmakers.
Second, the process helped us build stronger and more
personal relationships with many candidates new to state
level politics. The ORA also gauged candidates’ positions
by developing a candidate questionnaire that was mailed to
general election candidates.
An ORA endorsement was made to candidates who
satisfactorily completed a questionnaire and whom our Board
believes support public policies that will allow the restaurant
industry to grow and prosper. If you have any questions
about the Ohio Restaurant Association’s endorsements or the
endorsement process, please do not hesitate to contact ORA
Director of Government Affairs Richard Mason at
or (614) 246-0130.
Along with the results of the questionnaire, the Ohio
Restaurant PAC Committee reviewed demographic information
and political intelligence provided by staff. They made
recommendations to the ORA Board of Directors at its June
10
th
meeting. The Board’s vote is reflected in the list below:
