WINTER 2014 | MARINE TECHNICIAN TODAY
5
Q:
What do you feel AMTECH’s, major role is?
A:
To assist the independent and manufacturer
affiliated service technician in basic systems
education to enhance diagnostic and
troubleshooting skills.
Q:
What made you decide to
volunteer to serve on the board?
A:
I think the job AMTECH does for the
technicians is a very important part of the
industry. To be able to steer the direction of
the organization from the board level is an
opportunity I could not pass up.
Q:
Where do you see the industry going?
A:
Engine and boat technology is advancing
very fast. Technicians need the educational
background to be able to understand this
technology and how to troubleshooting and
repair complex systems. AMTECH can provide
the basis for this training.
Q:
What role does service
play in the marine industry?
A:
The marine industry has conducted
many surveys on the subject of customer
satisfaction in the repair process. One element
of producing a competent repair is technical
knowledge of the repair person. For the marine
industry to maintain or expand its current
level, we need well trained service technicians.
I don’t see boat and motor sales returning to
previous levels anytime soon, and companies
that want to succeed will need superb service
departments that include highly trained
service technicians.
