Membership Directory 2015
1
Dear AIA San Diego Members:
AIA San Diego’s 2015-16 Annual Yearbook & Member Directory continues our recent efforts to enhance the profile of the
Chapter and support wider awareness of our members and their professional capabilities. It is one piece of a wider local
communications effort by our staff and volunteer leaders that includes, among other initiatives, media relations, social
media engagement, advocacy on key issues, the hosting of member networking events, leadership in a large-scale public
programs such as Archtoberfest San Diego and an effective website and e-newsletter.
As our local and regional economies continue to broadly recover, prospects for our profession have brightened considerably.
For example, the careers page of the Chapter’s website is among its most visited and features many more available
positions than seen in recent years. Nevertheless, despite the improving business climate, many challenges facing our
members persist. I recently heard an informed speaker state that his architecture business was better than ever but that
he was having trouble making money. Adapting to new delivery models, managing the cost of pursuit and the risks of the
design business, the relentless pressure to strategically invest in technology and training, the competitive threat posed by
the growing global free-market for services, and the need to recruit and retain talented, productive employees are among
the serious concerns for many of us.
To help meet these challenges,AIA San Diego is dedicated to serving the needs of its members across a range of important
domains beyond communications and networking; offering an ambitious and relevant professional development program,
coordinating support for emerging professionals (both students and the newly employed), recognizing professional
achievement (the Annual Design Awards, Lifetime Achievement Awards and support for candidates seeking elevation to
the College of Fellows) as well as committing to a vigorous committee structure that serves important design practice
subsets such as residential, sustainable, historic preservation, healthcare facilities, urban design/planning and women
in architecture.
AIA San Diego’s volunteer leaders and their commitment to the ideals and standards of the profession underpin the
effectiveness and stature of the organization. It is through their dedication and enthusiasm that we’ve been successful in
pursuing collaborative relationships with important strategic partners as well as to solidify the generous support we receive
from our corporate allied members, special event underwriters and annual donors.
Ultimately, our future rests in the hands of you, our members. Sustaining the Chapter and its vital role as an influencer of
how the community we share meets the future needs of our citizens is a project I believe we can all embrace. Thank you
for your support.

Sincerely,
